B5.11 Solar zoning
Review and amend zoning and development regulations to allow utility or community solar and require solar orientation in new construction where feasible.

Require new development to have south facing roofs, when feasible, to allow future solar. (According to Olympia’s 2006 comprehensive plan “It is often no more difficult to design a subdivision so up to 80 percent of the lots can take advantage of the sun.”) Section 15.12.020 (E) of Lacey’s code does say that the layout of streets “should consider” orientation to be able to take advantage of solar access opportunities for development of lots.
