Provide independent sophisticated detailed advice on investments in energy efficiency and electrification for homeowners, landlords, and commercial building owners.

QuitCarbon does free Zoom consultations with owners of single family homes and residential buildings with up to ten units in the San Francisco Bay area and creates electrification plans for them including information on rebates, estimated costs, and suggested priorities. (They also “help you find the best local licensed contractors“, which may be how they finance themselves.) They maintain a list of other electrification assistance programs around the world.

BayREN is a regional collaborative staffed by local governments in the Bay area. It provides outreach, training, technical assistance, funding and resources to support increases in resilience and energy efficiency. Their Home Energy Advisers are “certified energy-efficiency professionals who guide you through upgrades and rebates every step of the way, at no cost.” They also provide support for the owners of multi-family buildings, businesses, and government staff.

Portland’s Community Energy Project is funded by the Portland Climate Fund. Its programs include an “objective, unbiased” advisory service for efficiency upgrades that provides advice, contractor recommendations and financing information.

Thirty communities in Massachusetts now have coaching programs in which trained volunteers provide help and advice about switching to a heat pump. Canary Media has an article about them.

I Heart My Home CT counsels residential renters, owner-occupants, and landlords to make their buildings more energy-efficient and deploy clean energy and sustainability practices. (It’s run by New Haven’s Neighborhood Housing Services.)

Helio is a for profit business providing integrated residential electrification to homeowners in Colorado.

Energise Sussex Coast offers a range of programs in Southeast England, including training volunteer Energy Ambassadors, community solar projects and advice on residential solar projects, energy advice over the phone and on-line, support for creating similar local services, etc.

The Fort Collins, Colorado municipal utility runs a one stop shop service supporting home and rental property energy efficiency upgrades. It provides assessments, rebates, financing options with on-bill repayment, Epic Certificates documenting the completion of recommended upgrades and the building’s energy score before and after those modifications, and an education and certification program for real estate agents. PG&E also provides a whole home remote energy analysis and a  “personal energy coach” for customers with smart meters.
