G1.3 ClimeTime school curriculum
Coordinate the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction’s ClimeTime K-12 climate education program with local government to bring youth into the feedback and planning process of developing climate mitigation programs and policy.

The ClimeTime program, “a state-led network for climate science learning that helps teachers and their students understand climate science issues affecting Washington communities” is facilitated by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction in collaboration with the UW Institute for Science + Math Education. It received $4 million in the 2018-2019 biennium. That funds grants to support teacher professional development, create instructional materials, design related assessment tasks and evaluation strategies, and facilitate student events through all nine Educational Service Districts in Washington ($3 million) and seven community-based organizations ($1 million).

Abby Ruskey’s “Launching K-12 Climate Science Literacy to Scale in Washington State” discusses organizing this initiative. (She lives in Olympia.)
