Career Connects

G1.4 Career Connects
Require a percentage of green jobs in the Career Connects WA program.

The 2017-2019 biennial budget allocated $6.4 million to a number of current Career Connect programs providing career connected learning opportunities around the state. The 2019-21 budget allocated $24 million to various specified Career Connect Washington initiatives. (Green jobs doesn’t seem to be an identified item in this list…)

I don’t know how these awards are related to the work of Career Connect Washington, which is working with a wide range of stakeholders to develop a comprehensive state-wide system for career connected learning. (Perhaps they got some or all of the $5.4 million labeled “Local funding” for “Competitive grants for program intermediaries, regional networks and coordinators in education service districts…”in the 2019-21 budget.)

They recently selected applicants to develop regional networks that will connect and support local schools, teachers, employers, colleges, industry groups and others to develop regional strategies and programs, and lead recruiting local employers to help develop high-quality programs that truly prepare students for employment. They plan to build on the success of current career-connected programs by expanding their capacity and using them as models for new ones, to engage students and families in this new approach, and to develop a review and endorsement process to give families confidence in it.
