T4.3 Rural transit *
Identify and implement first/last mile solutions for rural ridership (engage rural home owners associations for representation and feedback). Present this plan to TRPC with direction to explore pilot programs and secure funding sources.
The Rural and Tribal Transportation Program currently provides accessible transportation services for the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation; the communities of Centralia, Rochester, Tenino, Bucoda, and Rainier; and other portions of the Thurston Region outside Intercity Transit’s service boundary. (It will deviate by up to 3/4 of a mile from its regular route to accommodate riders.)
It runs four or five times a day on several routes using small propane powered buses, and connects to Intercity Transit in Thurston County and Twin Transit in Lewis County. Operating it costs between $18 and $20 for each ride. TRPC maintains a webpage for users.
