G3.3 Green energy bond
Research feasibility of green energy bond.
King County has issued green bonds. So far, the proceeds have been used for waste management projects, but they also anticipate using them for “projects that involve clean transportation conversions to zero-emission buses; forest land protection and habitat restoration to offset greenhouse gas emissions; and design and construction of green-built facilities that include recycled and energy saving materials, improve air quality, reduce water use, and achieve high ratings for sustainable construction.”
Tacoma’s green bonds have also been used for waste management investments, including more efficient collection trucks. Sound Transit has issued them, and so has Spokane’s wastewater and stormwater utility.
Vancouver, BC’s first issue includes funding for its district utility system, the Neighborhood Energy Utility.
