B6.2 Electric appliances in new construction
Municipal code to require electric appliances in new construction.
The 2018 State Energy Code, which went into effect in February 2021, includes a number of provisions incentivizing electric heat pump space and water heating, as well as efficient appliances, and penalizing gas space and water heating.
Menlo Park’s ordinance allows gas ranges in one and two-story residences, but also requires wiring for an electric range. Seattle’s local code requires the electrical infrastructure necessary for future conversion of any gas appliances in multifamily buildings over three stories.
