B4.2 Building energy goals
Establish energy goals/benchmarks (e.g. LEED) for new buildings, and adopt permitting practices and building code and/or design guidelines that support clean and efficient energy practices and technologies (e.g., passive design, rooftop solar panels and water heaters, electric vehicle charging stations).
All new buildings of more than 50,000 square feet in the City of Miami are required to be certified LEED Silver or higher, or meet an equivalent standard such as the National Green Building Standard or the Florida Green Building Coalition’s green high-rise residential standard.
The Washington State ShiftZero Alliance’s Zero Net Carbon Policy Toolkit provides local governments with several tiers of certification leading to highly energy efficient or zero net carbon buildings.
