T3.__ EV Sales incentives
Provide incentives to dealers or to salespeople for selling EVs.
Connecticut has a successful program providing incentives to dealerships for EV sales; some of the money goes to salespeople, but not much.
A recent Oregon bill, HB 2514, would have provided an incentive of $250 for each EV sale directly to the salesperson. (According to the sponsor, they make an average of $100 to $150 per car, and sell about 11 cars per month.) The bill passed out of committee, with amendments, but died in Ways & Means. A piece in Charged has some details about the industry from the bill’s sponsor.
Forth has an EV-Drive Dealership Certification Program utilizing dealership education, sales staff and customer incentives, promotion, and outreach. In their pilot program customers were entered for a chance to win $250 in a lottery if they took a test drive and got $100 for registering their EV with their utility if they bought one. Sales staff and the dealership each got $100 for selling an EV.
The Orlando municipal utility provides brief EV sales training and direct incentives for EV sales to dealers.
