G1.6 Staff training
Provide professional technical and skill training for staff related to climate mitigation. Educate staff on the local sources of GHG emissions, the importance of local climate action, the TCMP, and effective community measures related to their job duties.
NOAA has developed the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit to provide useful, actionable climate information and tools to assist communities in planning for future climate conditions. It includes a variety of on-line and instructor led training courses on climate issues.
The Clean Air Partnership developed a training program for city staff across Ontario, which includes a 250 page text, “Protecting your Community from Climate Change: a training program for Ontario municipalities”.
The Urban Sustainability Directors Network has training games about floods, extreme weather, and heat, with potential facilitation. They network staff in participating cities in Peer Learning Groups, Collective Action Groups, and other projects tackling dozens of topics.
