Plugzio provides several different models which are drop-in replacements for outlets and junction boxes, but provide access control, consumption monitoring and usage monetization for devices that are plugged into them or connected in line. A brochure about their products.
Neocharge sells a smart splitter which adds a second socket for a charger to a 220V outlet, pauses charging the car if the primary use is drawing power, and provides some monitoring, scheduling, and notification features. (Unless the outlet is close to where you want to charge the car, you’d still need a heavy duty extension cord to close the gap, and at least some EV manufacturers warn against using them because they keep the overload temperature sensor in the actual charging cable from working.) Splitter Switch is another option. Dryer Buddy is a less sophisticated version of the same idea.
The Divee splits an installed 40 Amp circuit, typically the one for the range, to share it with an EV charger. It shuts off the power to the charger automatically when the range is running, and turns it back on when the range is turned off. (It’s priced in Canadian dollars on this site…)
