T2.17 Teleworking/Flex work *
Government agencies increase opportunities for employee teleworking options and staggering work days to reduce employees driving during peak traffic times.
In 2013, “The Bottom Line on Telework for the Thurston Region State and Local Government”, a study TRPC commisioned, concluded that twice weekly telework by 30% of the region’s public sector workforce could save $58 million per year and reduce vehicle miles traveled by 14 million miles per year, lowering greenhouse gases by roughly 5,000 tonnes. (At that point, about 0.6% of state and local government employees teleworked half time or more.)
