T3.13 Utility battery ownership
Have utilities “own” the batteries and lease out to operators (all phone model)
Renault offered a battery leasing option for the Zoe in Europe, and still does in Germany, but has discontinued it in the UK as batteries have become cheaper and more familiar. Proterra now offers battery leasing for its electric buses.
HB1512, which passed the Legislature last session, authorizes utility investments to electrify transportation, including investments in EV chargers, “other electric transportation programs, services, or incentives to support electrification of transportation.” Presumably, that would allow them to lease batteries, if they thought there was a market for it.
