B3.4 Exemplary buildings *
Create a Zero-Energy Building Challenge by partnering with public, private, non-profit and faith-based organizations. Facilitate rapid deployment and public awareness of high-profile demonstration buildings that use innovative energy efficiency and/or technology.
Shift Zero and Passive House Northwest, in collaboration with a number of community partners, are sponsoring the 20 by 2020 Building Challenge in Seattle to provide “proof of concept” that healthy, super-efficient buildings make economic sense and can provide equitable access to high quality, high performance buildings for people of all income levels. They have nine participating projects so far.
The Minneapolis Building Energy Challenge seeks to get tenants, managers and owners of large commercial buildings to take energy efficiency and renewable energy actions that reduce their greenhouse gas pollution by 15 percent (from the 2014 level) by 2020, and has an annual awards program.
